HiWi position: Programming a digital twin for fiber optic sensors
Are you looking for a HiWi position in the field of data science or computer science with direct application relevance in photonics and/or would you like to gain experience in scientific work?
We offer an exciting HiWi position where you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of a digital twin of an optical fiber.
In addition to optical communication, this fiber is also used as a sensor fiber for various environmental parameters. With the reflectometric measurement methods used, for example, the temperature can be measured at any point along the fiber without the need for additional sensors along the fiber.
A digital twin is used to detect potential faults or failures in the fiber at an early stage using the available data, thereby making the system more robust. This leads to improved reliability and efficiency of the entire fiber optic system.
Your tasks are varied and could include the following:
- Creation of the digital twin of the optical fiber
- Creation and validation of simulation models
- Development of algorithms for data analysis and pattern recognition
- Integration and visualization of simulation data using suitable software
- Scientific documentation and preparation
Requirements:
- Student of computer science, data science, computational engineering or a comparable course of study
- Experience with simulation tools, programming languages (Python, MATLAB) and neural networks
- Interest in working with sensor technology applications and digital modeling
- Previous knowledge of photonic basics is desirable, otherwise the motivation to familiarize yourself with complex topics is completely sufficient
